"Redwood Run" is the 5th episode in the first season of Epithet Erased, and the 1st episode of the "Western Arc", and the 5th episode overall in the series. It will be adapted in the EP 5-7 Novelization.

Synopsis[]

A week after the museum incident, Detective Percy King has been placed in charge of hunting down the Arsene Amulet and the thieves who stole it. Meanwhile, Giovanni makes arrangements to meet with an underworld appraiser in the backwoods town of Redwood Run.

The beginning shows Molly Blyndeff's home and Percival King is chatting with Molly. Percival tells Molly to call her Percy. Percival and Molly have some tea, requested by Percival, the tea they drink is earl tea. Percy and Molly converse and Molly is asked questions by Percy about the Banzai Blasters that were in the museum. The scene cuts to Giovanni on the phone with Ramsey Murdoch. His mom asks Giovanni who he is talking to and Giovanni panics for a second, Giovanni tells his mother to shut up.

Giovanni hangs up and tells his mom to shut up once more.

Giovanni is seen in a car with Car Crash and yelling at him. He gets out of the car and rants for a bit. Car Crash then drops off Giovanni before his car started to malfunction and fall backwards. Car Crash cries out frustrated to no avail. A wheel can be seen spinning away. Meanwhile, Giovanni notices a lot of Banzai Blasters hanging out in the town.

He arrives at the police station, which has lost about 3 letters and just read the word "RIFF". He charges in, thinking its a set-up only to find the friendly sheriff who soon points him in the direction of Ramsey. Giovanni is started by Ramsey's gold eye before Giovanni asked how he got caught. He explained that he turned himself in to avoid bounty hunters going after him. He also explains how he likes it here and that the sheriff was only appointed because he has an epithet. And after Giovanni was afraid of the necklace being stolen, Ramsey explains that his epithet allows him to make gold so he has no need for the necklace as he can make his own wealth and that he appraises as a sort of public service.

Afterwards Giovanni gives it to Ramsey who explains that its real and that both the necklace and the its powers are very valuable. Giovanni decides to give it to the Banzai Blasters' higher ups despite it not paying well because he wants reputation and a promotion. He then leaves.

Percy gets a call from Eros that she needs to pick up the Donaldson kid (Car Crash) from Redwood Run as he crashed again and the tolling company blacklisted. Percy arrival causes Car Crash to freak out because she is a cop. Percy assumes it is because he is in shock so she uses her epithet to make an apothecary hut. Percy continues to offer help before she spots a Banzai Blaster in the bushes. She goes after them, telling Car Crash to hide in the car. Zora Salazar then walks by.

Giovanni encounters Bugsy and Arnold saying that they should get the necklace. Giovanni founts that he is a captain before they reveal they are vice-principals (the rank ABOVE captain). And they command they since Giovanni is lower-ranked that he should give them the necklace, also stating that Minions are just tools. Giovanni objects before realizing that none of his minions are with him and then swarmed be the vice-principals'. After taking the Amulet they discus giving it to the boss to get a promotion and Giovanni comes to the realization no longer wants to be a banzai blaster. He then goes to bar as his ride won't be here for a few hours.

Meanwhile, Percy arrives in town and is appalled the swarm of banzai blasters and the shabby buildings. She then finds 3 Banzai Blasters that after an awkward mistake by one she quickly defeats them with a wizard tower.

Ramsey is chilling in his cell when Zora appears, she teases him a little before stating she's looking for something else (the Amulet) and asks is he has seen it. He says she just missed him so she leaves beckoning him to find a better hiding place because once she finds the amulet she coming after him next. She then shoots at the sheriff. This causes Percy to come inside and find out that the Sherriff is incompetent and there is no phone to call reinforcements. Ramsey manages to convince her to let him help because you need to think like a criminal to catch one. He also lies and tells her he's a mundie. She also gets a gun as a gift from the sheriff.

Giovanni orders 'something hard' from the bartender, which turns out to be a pinecone, which he begins eating. Meanwhile, Ramsey and Percy walk in. Ramsey suggest they get a drink before Percy notices Giovanni. He accidenty alerts everyone to her presence causing them all to point guns at her, including the cat.

Trivia[]

  • The assets used for the scene when Giovanni Potage is on the phone with Ramsey Murdoch will never be used again.[4]
  • When Zora walked past Car Crash, she was humming Great at Cowboy.
    • Since this was done before Dawn M Bennett recorded her lines, Brendan Blaber was the person who whistled the tune.[1]
  • Arnold and Bugsy state that, "the boss will promote us" despite being revealed in the trivia card that only one vice-principal can be promoted.
    • Arnold would have been the one to be promoted.[5]
  • In the synopsis it says "A week after the museum incident", however that appears to be incapable with how repeatedly both the "Museum Arc" and the "Western Arc" are stated to happen a week before the events of Prison of Plastic in said novel.
  • This episode, with the rest of the series, was originally available on VRV, but after their merge with Crunchyroll, it is now not available on either platform.
